Grades

The material on The Guitar School has been organised into Grades to help students and teachers find repertoire at an appropriate level. In most cases, a grade can be completed within approximately one year of study. For very young students, however, Grade 1 may take up to three years depending on the individual.

Grade 0 is designed for absolute beginners. Grades 1–3 are suitable for beginner-level students, Grades 4–5 for intermediate students, and Grades 6–8 for advanced players.

Please note that individual pieces may span more than one grade. For example, in ensemble music the lower voices are often easier than the upper parts, so different parts of the same work may suit different levels. Some parts of solo pieces may also be more difficult than others and therefore possible to skip them for lower grades.
