Joaquín Malats y Miarons was a Spanish pianist and composer. He studied with Juan Bautista Pujol at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory of Music. After debuting at the age of fourteen (1886), he furthered his studies at the Paris Conservatory, where he won first prize for piano and the Diémer Prize in 1903. Born 1872-03-05 (153 years ago) in Barcelona, Spain. Died 1912-10-22 in Barcelona, Spain (aged 40).
